Ampthill Town’s poor start continued at the weekend as they saved their worst display of the season for the weekend before their FA Vase second round tie.
Town lost 8-0 at Colney Heath on Saturday, with six of the goals coming in the first half of the match.
Still reeling from their Beds Senior Cup exit at Barton Rovers a few days previously, Town found themselves 2-0 down to a rampant Colney Heath side inside the first 10 minutesof the game.
Another two goals in quick succession and two more before the half-time whistle made it a humiliating first half for the shell-shocked visitors.
Again three changes were made at the break by Ampthill manager Derwayne Stupple and the performance improved a little, although Town conceded two more goals and ended up on the end of a thumping 8-0 reverse.
Attention now Turns to Saturday’s Vase match, and Ampthill know that they will need to pick themselves up quickly if they are to take anything from the game.
Town reached the last-eight of the competition last year and have a home tie with fellow SSML side Tring Athletic at the weekend.
However, it is going to take a huge improvement in their display and they will need to call on their character if they are to overcome a side who have already beaten them at home this season.
Ampthill have two draws to their name while their visitors are midway in the table.
Ampthill travel to Hillingdon Brough the following Tuesday in a busy month, and they will be hoping to avoid defeat against another side struggling at the wrong end of the table.
