Bedford Town left it late to battle back from a goal behind and beat Potters Bar Town 2-1 in a dramatic turnaround.

The Eagles made a shaky start to the game and keeper Garry Malone was forced into action to tip a bouncing shot from Joshua Oyinsan over the bar.

Potters Bar went into the game on a four-game unbeaten run, and it looked as though the run would be extended when Oyinsan powerfully held off two Bedford defenders in the area, before turning and firing an unstoppable shot past Malone on 16 minutes.

Four minutes later, Malone was at full stretch to deflect Josh Hutchinson’s effort, with the ball rebounding off the inside of the left hand post before it was cleared.

Still under pressure and unable to clear properly, Malone palmed a shot from Joe Bennett round the post, before Rudy Misambo was forced off injured and replaced by Ross Oulton just after the half hour.

The second half did little to warm up the 161 crowd, but it was Rob Parker who gave the travelling fans cause to thaw a little, when his strong 80th minute run resulted in a swirling shot that nearly caught Ben Goode off guard.

Oulton then dispossessed a defender to set up a one-on-one with Goode, with the keeper coming out to save Oulton’s low shot with his legs.

The equalising goal eventually arrived with just three minutes of normal time remaining as Curtis Shaw capitalised on a mistake to slot home into an empty net from a tight angle. Potters Bar came back at their guests in an attempt to restore the lead in the dying moments - but this led to the winning goal at the other end.

Two minutes into stoppage time, a long pass down the Bedford right was intercepted by Paul Cooper, who cut inside and, in one movement, shot with his left to beat Goode at the right hand post and snatch the three points.

The win sees Bedford move up one place in the table to 16th; just two points behind Potters Bar, and one point in front of Chalfont St Peter who visit the Eyrie on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.
