Smith left to rue controversial decision as his ‘goal’ is disallowed

All-action midfielder Jonathan Smith couldn’t believe he hadn’t scored as he twice thought he had levelled for Luton in their 1-1 draw with Hereford at the weekend, writes Mark Wood.
Controversially Smith saw his swerving, dipping 25-yard effort on 51 minutes headed on to the bar and out as it looked to have crossed the line, before seeing keeper James Bittner pull off a brilliant one-handed save to turn his low drive past the post on 86 minutes.
On the first, Smith said: “A couple of the lads have said that it was over the line, so I’ll have to look at it again, but from where I was standing I thought it had gone in
“As soon as I hit the other one I thought that’s definitely going in, because it looked like it was going straight for the bottom corner.
“I don’t know how he’s got a finger to it.”
