AFC Kempston Rovers were crowned UCL Premier Division champions in stunning fashion at the weekend.

Going into their final game against Boston Town at home, the Walnut Boys were level on points with leaders Leicester Nirvana, but had a worse goal difference.

With their rivals triumphing 2-1 at Eynesbury Rovers, Kempston needed a hefty victory to secure the title and they managed it in style, thumping their opponents 7-0.

Goals came from Shane Bush, Robbie Goodman, Jamaine Ivy, Sam Macrae and Dom Marsala, Ben Shepherd and an own goal as Kempston won the title.

Joint boss Jimmy Stoyles said: “After a long conversation myself and Gary Flinn decided to approach the game in the same manner and shape that we have done all season.

“It was tempting to set up more attacking but of late we have been creating plenty of chances and scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.

“The plan was to get to 30 minutes and then half time and then re-evaluate, but we started the game well scoring an early goal which settled everyone down.

“We were playing some real good football as we led 3-0 at time, but could have been six-up.

“We made a change soon after the break, bringing on Marsala who made a positive impact with a goal as we took our chances.

“The reaction from our fans and news from Twitter confirmed we were champions. It’s an amazing achievement by this group of players and fully deserved, scoring 111 goals and only letting in 31 all season with only one defeat, the best team in the league got their prize.
