Kempston Rovers enjoyed a useful pre-season friendly workout against a youthful Luton Town XI on Saturday.
On a gloriously hot day Luton arrived at Hillgrounds with an assortment of fringe players, first year pros and talented second year scholars.
Rovers started with a strong side and were the better side in the first 45 minutes,
Their pressing game was causing Luton trouble with some really good football and good goals from Fuller and Johnson put Rovers two up, and it could have been more, Luton pulled one back on half time.
Kempston then made seven changes with five trial players getting game time, the second half started off well for both sides but over time Luton started to dominate and ended up winning 4-2 with goals from Arthur Read, Freddie Hinds, Jack James and Michael Shamola.
There was a morale boosting 8-1 beating of UCL Division One favourites Olney on Tuesday, who included several former Rovers players in their line-up.
Kempston started confidently on the ball with a tempo that Olney could not deal with. Goals from Johnson, Macrae and Riley made it a well deserved 3-0 at half time.
Early second half goals from Fuller and Ivy made it five. Changes were made with 25 left and new young singing Harlem made a good impact with a good goal, while eight one touch passes ended with Sheps bending one with the outside of his boot top corner for the seventh.
Fuller made it 8 before ex Rovers player Vinny got one back for Olney in 87 minutes.
