Shefford & Campton earn bragging rights as they beat league leaders

CALDECOTE Premier Division lead is down to just a single point after their 100 per cent home record was blown away by second place Shefford Town & Campton who made it six wins on the bounce with a 4-1 victory.

All started well enough for the hosts when Dave Daniels put them ahead after just five minutes but two goals from Dan Webb just five minutes later saw the visitors 2-1 up at the break. Then strikes from Andrew Hayday on 62 minutes and Lee Bilcock on two minutes from time sealed the three points.

For third place Bedford Hatters there was a home 2-2 draw with AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College. Simon Pixley and Scott Alleyne were on the home scoresheet against Town replies from Tom Marvin and Matthew Cheveralls.

Losing ground on the leading three were fourth place Oakley Sports after Renhold United stretched their unbeaten ways to nine games by beating them 1-0 on their own patch.

Alex Woolston netted the vital goal on 70 minutes for a United side that had played with ten men since Anish Khinda’s red card just 20 minutes into the contest. The win took United to fifth place in the table at the expense of Arlesey Town Reserves who were held in a goalless home draw by Sharnbrook.

Having lost their last three games, Blunham won 1-0 at home to Dunton while Dom Aloia netted the goal. However Dunton stay off the bottom following Woburn’s 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Flitwick Town. Martin Byrne, Dean Warren, James Honeyman and Richie Bevan netted the goals to give the Town their first away win.

Division One

IT’S all change in Division One with Lidlington United Sports back on top following a 7-0 home win over Meltis Albion. Darren Simms netting three times alongside single strikes from Nicky Barton, Ben Marwood, Shaun Glasspole and Chris Roberts.

Losing top spot were Marston Shelton Rovers who were held to a 1-1 draw at third place Sandy. Olly Banfield shot the hosts in front after 35 minutes while Mark Champkin levelled 20 minutes into the second half. The result took Rovers’ unbeaten ways to 12 games.

Elsewhere both Bedford Sports Athletic and Ickwell & Old Warden came up with victories to keep them well and truly in the championship race.

Fourth placed Sports Athletic needed a Gary Canzano goal to take them to a 1-0 home win over Westoning whilst fifth placed Ickwell retained their season’s unbeaten home ways with a 6-1 victory over Kings AFC. Lee Threadgold, Dan Threadgold, Greg Instrell, Anup Kalyan, Danny Fox and Matthew McCartney were all on the scoresheet against a lone reply from Chris Greene.

At Hillgrounds, AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves ended a run of ten games without a win with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Luton Boys. Kegan Roberts netting all three with replies from Steve O’Dell and Naashan Bennett.

Lea Sports PSG took their unbeaten run to five games by sharing the spoils in a 2-2 home draw with Caldecote Reserves. Martin Collins and Matthew Day were on their scoresheet against replies from Dom Lombari and Tom Dupuy.

FC Meppershall also returned to form with a 5-1 victory at Henlow. Matthew Phelan, Joe Price and a Neville Allen header put them 3-0 ahead at the break before Jonny Rowe struck back for the hosts two minutes into the second period. But the visitors added to their tally with another strike from Price and a goal for James Field in the games closing ten minutes.

Jubilee Cup

MARABESE Ceramics will face a trip to Elstow Abbey in round two of the Jubilee Cup after they emerged 3-2 winners at Co-op Sports. Colin Stanley, Richard Follano and Rhys Tudball netted the goals with the replies from Tom Miller and Conor Sherry.

Watson Shield

SUNDON Park Rangers Colts will travel to Riseley Sports in round two of the Watson Shield after emerging 4-2 winners at Kempston Athletic. Ashley Wadhams, Lee Redmond, Michael Brunton plus an own goal did the damage against a Gavin Matthews double in reply.

Division Two

ELSTOW Abbey remain three points clear in Division Two and are still unbeaten following a 3-1 home win over Stopsley Park. Dave McCarthy put Abbey ahead in the tenth minute only for Jack O’Shea to level matters nine minutes later.

But the lead that lasted just 60 seconds as McCarthy struck again to restore Elstow’s lead. Then it was Ed L’Erario for 3-1 in the 67th minute.

Second placed AFC Turvey ended third place side Bromham United’s six game unbeaten run with a 2-1 home win at Stonefields. Mike Stephenson netted both goals against a lone reply from Shane Canzano.

Biggest scorers of the day were Shefford Town & Campton Reserves who ran out 9-1 home winners over Queens Park Crescents. Sam Martin netting four and Jordan Robbens two alongside singles from Ryan Dobson, Mark Ansell-Carter and Kevin Rimmer.

Life gets no better for bottom of the table Great Barford. They have now lost their last 17 games after being beaten 6-1 at home by Sundon Park Rangers. Sam Chapman, Matt Conway, Samuel Kehinde, Daniel Viola and Nicky Buttigieg plus an own goal were on the Rangers scoresheet against a lone home reply from Barford’s George Harris.

Second from bottom Clifton saw their three game unbeaten home run come to an end when beaten 1-0 by M & DH Oakley whose goal came from Jamie Underwood.

Elsewhere Pavenham and Potton United Reserves shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw, Tom Rodger (two) and Nick Atkins were on the home scoresheet against United’s replies from Amit Aghera, Sam Bonham and a Ben Talbot penalty.

Division Three

RENHOLD Village went three points clear in Division Three and remain 100 per cent at home following a 3-2 win over a Potton Town side that was losing for the first time in eight outings. Dan Luke did the damage with a hat-trick against a brace in reply from Chris Cooper.

Losing ground on the leaders were second place Goldington who were held to a 1-1 draw at Royal Oak Kempston. Lorenzo Jordan was on the home marksman with Johnny Hutchinson replying.

For third placed Cranfield United Reserves there was a 3-1 win at Flitwick Town Reserves which takes their unbeaten ways up to ten league games. Richard Stimpson, Stuart Pearce and a James Armstrong penalty did the damage, Liam Keane scoring the consolation for a Flitwick side that has now lost its last seven games.

Still very much in the championship race are fifth place Riseley Sports. They recorded win number seven with a 4-2 home win over a Westoning Reserves side that is now without a win in their last nine outings. Paul Brown and Tom Ellison both netted a brace against two in reply from Gareth White.

Wilshamstead Reserves have now won their last seven home games after beating bottom of the table Dunton Reserves 3-1, Liam Philip, Chris McGurn and Kieron Colclough bagging the goals against a lone reply from Ben Myler.

Following three straight home defeats, Kempston Hammers Sports returned to form with a 2-1 win over Eastcotts AFC. Jimmy Grandidge netting both goals against a lone reply from Sean McFarland.

Division Four

BEDFORD Park Rangers remain two points clear in Division Four after romping to a 5-1 home win over Bedford Panthers. Josh Geary with a brace plus Shaun Finlay, Matthew Westwood and Martin Danobrega netted the goals, with the reply from Michael Lewis.

For second place Marsh Leys, it was a retention of their season’s unbeaten ways on the road with a 3-0 win at Shefford Town & Campton ‘A’, Vinny Mattu twice and Jamie Carson netting the vital goals.

In third spot now are Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves who ran out 5-0 winners at bottom of the table Dunton ‘A’, Kevin Turner with a brace plus Matthew Bruney, Lee Coan and Ryan Porter on the scoresheet.

Also winning 5-0 away from home were Caldecote ‘A’ at Goldington Hammers. Nicky Albone and Gary Allum netting twice and Sean Boyd once to send the Hammers to their fifth consecutive defeat to leave them second from bottom in the league standings.

After last week’s win over leaders Bedford Park Rangers, Wootton Village returned to earth with a bump when beaten 4-0 at home by a Dinamo Flitwick side winning for the first time in six outings thanks to goals from Jay Del Boyer, Barrie Lee Hannham, Dale Goldie and Chaz Lee Martin.

Keeping up the away winners theme were Sandy Reserves, they ended Stewartby Village’s eight game unbeaten win by defeating them 3-2. Ryan Burgess, Chris Gregory and Ryan Gregory on their scoresheet against home replies from James Churchman and Lee Collis.

However, the result of the day in this division belonged to Clifton Reserves who ran out 8-3 home winners over championship contenders Thurleigh. Joe Marshall and Tony Norman both netting hat-tricks alongside a brace from Sam Nightingale against replies via Owen Layton, Stefan Wilson and Sam Queeley.
