Saturday football: Ampthill hit 8, Kempston win too

Ampthill Town celebrated their third away win of the season in great style when they crushed Holmer Green 8-2 in the SSML Premier on Saturday.

Their hat trick of wins on their travels was their best away success for years, and saw them come from a goal behind and with seven second half strikes.

It was a memorable day for Tyrone Taylor who scored four of the goals in the second half including a trio of headers.

The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute when Lee Putman capitalised on some slack defending. But seven minutes later Steve Flux joined the attack for a corner and levelled with a superb overhead kick to make it 1-1 at the interval.

Tyrone Taylor put Town ahead within a minute of the restart wih the first of his four goals when Holmer had no answer to Ampthill’s superior strikeforce. Michael McKenzie weighed in with two goals and also had other opportunities to add to the goal tally.

Kyle Durcan was the other goalscorer on a day when Town gave Holmer Green few home comforts.

Town are in the Premier division top four.

In the SSML Division One Bedford FC twice came from behind to snatch a 3-2 victory at the death at Southall.

Curtis Herbert put the hosts in front only for Jamie Cole to level two minutes before the break. However Denron Daniel put Southill back in the lead inside a minute.

Josh Sturniolo put Bedford back on level terms five minutes after the restart and it was Jason Layne who bagged the winner three minutes into stoppage time.

Cranfield United bagged a late equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Winslow United.

Gary Hutchinson’s 32nd minute strike was cancelled out by the visitors’ Nick Garrow just before the break.

It looked like Matt Brady had given Winslow all three points when he scored on 86 minutes, but up popped Sam Evans with a leveller a minute from time.

In the UCL Premier Division Kempston Rovers were 1-0 winners at home to Cogenhoe United, whilst in the UCL Division One Wootton Blue Cross returned from Rothwell Corinthians with a 2-1 victory.
