Football round-up: Bedford tame Lions as AFC and Blue Cross lose out

Bedford thumped London Lions 4-0 in Molten Spartan SML Division One on Saturday, while Cranfield United’s trip to Buckingham Athletic was postponed.

Meanwhile, in Reserve Division Two Ampthill Town Reserves romped to a 9-0 win at Wodson Park Reserves.

On Tuesday, Bedford are set to go to Harpenden Town in Division One, while Cranfield visit Kentish Town and on Wednesday evening Ampthill Town Reserves are due to host Crawley Green Reserves and this Saturday Cranfield host Welwyn Garden City and Bedford go to Winslow United.

On Saturday, second-placed St Ives beat AFC Kempston Rovers 4-2 in their United Counties League Premier Division clash at Hillgrounds.

Kempston made the perfect start and took the lead on 14 minutes through Jordan Jarrold’s sweet left-foot effort.

This prompted St Ives to get into their stride and three goals in quick succession changed things at the interval.

The visitors equalised when Karl Gibbs headed home Jamie Alsop’s cross on 26 minutes, took the lead three minutes later when Dom Lawless converted Will Fordham’s header across goal and Gibbs made it three at the far post on 37.

Rovers came out for the second half with renewed determination and AFC pulled a goal back in the first minute of the second half through Sam Holmes’ near-post finish, but Lawless’ second on 68 minutes secured victory for the visitors.

On Tuesday AFC go to Wellingborough Town and this Saturday they take on Huntingdon Town at Jubilee Park.

Wootton Blue Cross are set to host Wellingborough Whitworth at Weston Park in Division One on Wednesday night, having lost 4-1 at Rushden and Higham United on Saturday.

The Lankies had been on a three-match losing run and led at the break through Daryl Lawman’s seventh-minute strike.

Craig Harrower doubled their lad two minutes into the second half, before Wootton player/boss Charlie Standish hit back five minutes later.

Howver, Lawman netted his second goal on the hour and veteran Ben Lord saled victory with the fourth two minutes from time.

This Saturday Blue Cross are set to to entertain Bugbrooke St Michaels and on Wednesday host Potton United.
