FORMER Bedford Town manager Ady Hall has spoken of his sadness in leaving the club after retiring from football to focus on home life, writes James Heneghan.

Hall has been involved with the football club for 11 years but a promotion within his day job has given him no choice but to step down and leave Nick Platnauer in charge.

Asked whether or not it was one of the hardest decisions he’s had to make, Hall replied: “Yes and no. Yes because I’m going to be retiring from Bedford Town and I’ve been here longer than I’ve known my eldest daughter.

“But with the new day job something had to give and it was a no-brainer because my day job pays the mortgage and keeps the family together.”

After guiding Bedford to 10th in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, Hall believes Bedford can build and move forward to challenge for the play-offs.

He continued: “If the majority of the lads are signed on and they build on that squad again then it’ll be another interesting season. For the first time in a long time we’ve not been looking over our shoulder at relegation so that was important.

“This season was about progressing but this was only one season, now it’s about building on it and success next season is play-offs or higher.”

Hall also stated his desire to go to Bedford matches next season despite retiring, adding: “To me, I’ve been involved with the club so long it’s about the people. I’m not leaving, I’m just not going to be in the dugout and I would love to come and watch in the stand. It’s the right thing to do but Bedford’s been such a big part of my life.

“I’ve already had two phone calls from other clubs, but Bedford is in my heart and if it’s football then it’s Bedford. The fans to me are the best supporters in the league. Sometimes there might only be a dozen of them but they always outsing the home crowd. I would just like to say a massive, massive thank you on behalf of my family. The kind words everyone has had to say means a lot to me.”
