Bedford Town gifted Uxbridge two second half goals on Saturday afternoon as the home side ran out 2-0 winners at Honeycroft.

The contest started at a blistering pace, and Matt Clifford tried an audacious shot from the left wing that went across goal and off.

Six minutes into the game, a long ball upfield from the visitors saw Reece Grant outpace the defence, but Ashley Harris won the one-on-one as he saved Grant’s tame shot.

A minute later, a cross from the right found Anthony O’Connor on his own, but his header was comfortably saved by Harris.

Midway through the half, a Bedford free-kick was taken by Ben Farrell, and despite beating the wall, Uxbridge keeper Sam Gray was well placed to catch the ball.

Four minutes into the second half, the home side nearly gifted Bedford the opener, when Dominic Morgan-Griffiths almost capitalised on an error from Gray, but the keeper managed to scramble the ball away.

Soon afterwards, it was Bedford’s turn to gift Uxbridge an opening, and the hosts did not waste the opportunity.

A pass back from Chris Cordara-Soanes to Harris caught the keeper in two minds, and he was robbed by Matty Woods, who had the simplest of tasks to put the ball into the empty net.

A couple of minutes later, Bedford thought they had scored when Matt Clifford stooped low to head goalwards. The ball looked fully over the line, but the linesman didn’t give a goal.

Uxbridge added a second goal on 76 minutes, when referee Thomas Bishop gave a soft free-kick. Wayne Carter, from 22 yards out, fired his effort over the wall and wide of Harris, into the top corner of the net.

Coming into the last 10 minutes, Harris made a good one-handed save from Carter after he played a one-two with Jon-Jo Bates as the game finished 2-0.
