There was disappointment for Bedford Town on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Aylesbury United at the Eyrie on Saturday afternoon, in a lacklustre match that will soon be forgotten.
Dan Burke wore a Bedford shirt for the first time since November last year, and new signing Rudy Misambo started in the centre of defence.
Bedford came at their opponents from the start, but they failed to test Tahj Bell in the Aylesbury goal.
The decisive moment of the game came in the 34th minute when Jason Blackett took advantage of a rebound off Jon Bukasa to round the Bedford defender before shooting past Garry Malone.
There were few chances of note in the second half, although Jon Bukasa’s cross in the 67th minute prompted Jack Wood to stoop and head the ball to safety. Instead, the defender’s header bounced off the ground and just cleared the bar.
With 10 minutes remaining, Kerran Birch and Callum Lewis combined to set up Paul Cooper on the edge of the area, but he only succeeded in putting it over the bar.
The first save of the game from either keeper came with three minutes to go when Steve Hatch’s run into the Bedford area ended with a low shot that Malone held onto confidently – but it was Aylesbury who took the points.
