Southern League Division One Central: Bedford Town 0 Royston Town 0

Bedford Town were held to their second successive Southern League Division One Central stalemate at the weekend as they drew 0-0 with leaders Royston Town.

Manager Jon Taylor has settled the side down recently, and apart from the now familiar alternating the goalkeepers, the outfield was the same that started against St Ives, with Enol Ordonez Suarez between the posts.

Early on, Dominic Morgan-Griffiths’ 30-yarder was saved by visiting keeper Ronnie Yates, while the same player was also denied on 15 minutes.

Ordonez Suarez was put under pressure from a corner, before Eagles’ midfielder Ben Farrell couldn’t get enough power on his shot to overly test Yates.

In the second period, visiting forward Simon Thomas fired high and wide, before Bedford introduced Leroy Griffiths on the hour mark.

He could have scored with his first touch as Josh Beech fed Matt Clifford down the left, who picked out the sub but he scuffed his shot.

Ryan Ingrey’s efforts to win a penalty were ignored for Royston, while Thomas then set up Jack Bradshaw, who fired goalwards, only to see Ordonez Suarez make a brilliant save, as Rhys Hoenes put the rebound into the side-netting.

Ordonez Suarez again came to the rescue with a marvellous stop from Chris Watters.

The Eagles keeper was almost beaten late on, as he tried to beat Hoenes to a ball forward, but James Peters was there to clear the danger.

Bedford head to Uxbridge on Saturday.
