Bedford Town shared the spoils with fellow Southern League Division 1 Central strugglers Beaconsfield SYCOB at the Eyrie on Saturday afternoon.

Severe delays due to the closure of part of the Bedford bypass had an effect on both sides, and the game was delayed by 10 minutes to allow late arriving players a chance to kit up and warm up.

Bedford were almost caught cold as, just two minutes into the game, Ollie Jones’ shot crashed against the underside of the crossbar and away to safety.

Warming up to the task, the Eagles took the lead on 13 minutes when Josh McGoldrick and Josh Winters played a one-two inside the Beaconsfield area, allowing McGoldrick to lob Beaconsfield keeper Sam Bunting to claim his first ever goal for the club.

Garry Malone comfortably saved an arcing header from Jordan Ajenlekoko, before Greg Ling’s cross-shot looked to have the beating of Bunting before it dipped over the bar.

Beaconsfield’s equaliser came on 34 minutes when a corner reached Elliot Carey at the far post, who headed the ball into the net.

There weren’t many chances for either side in the second half, but just after the restart a long-range shot from Jon Bukasa flew narrowly past the wrong side of the post.

Bedford gained a one-man advantage with 15 minutes to go, when Carey arned an early bath by collecting his second yellow card of the match.

Despite Bedford’s numerical advantage, it was Beaconsfield who could have picked up the points when Kofi Lockhart Adams forced a fine save from Malone to keep the Eagles in the game.

Jones unleashed a shot that forced Malone to palm over the bar, while at the other end Will Summerfield and Rob Parker both challenged for the same ball, but Bunting was on hand to easily save.

With Daventry winning, Bedford drop down to 18th, but they are still 18 points clear of the relegation zone.
