Southern League Division One Central: Aylesbury United 2 Bedford Town 1

Bedford Town suffered back-to-back defeats in the Southern League Division One Central as they were beaten 2-1 by Aylesbury United on Saturday.

Eagles handed places on the bench to their two new signings in the week, Lee Flavin and Damen Pickering.

They were indebted to keeper Ollie Sutton after 14 minute though after Ollie Stanbridge’s shot was deemed to have hit a Bedford hand, as the Eagles stopper guessed right to denyJake Bewley’s spo t kick.

Sutton then saved from Reece Cameron, while Bedford gained the ascendancy and took the lead on 20 minutes when Devante Stanley crossed for Josh Bamford to score.

United almost had a response when Bewley went close, while Eagles had further chances as Bamford’s shot drew a save from Zaki Oualah and then Ben Farrell tried his luck from distance.

The Ducks finished the half strongly as Ryan Kinnane volleyed over as did Cameron.

In the second period, Bruno Brito’s header was blocked, while Sutton produced an excellent low stop from from Sonny French.

With 20 minutes to go, Aylesbury were awarded another penalty when Jack Wood was felled in the area and although Sutton got a hand to Cameron’s spot kick, he couldn’t prevent the ball crossing the line.

The equaliser stirred the Eagles into life as Luke Knight soared above Wood, but he planted his header wide.

Sutton had to be alert to tip over Kinnane’s header, before the hosts went ahead on 81 minutes a Kinnane was in the right place to score.

Devante Stanley shot wide as Bedford couldn’t find a leveller, with the Eagles dropping to 15th in the table ahead of a home game against Ashford Town (Mddx) this weekend.
