Hatters new boys Alex Wall is keen to get into action as soon as possible – and his debut might even come at Nuneaton tonight, writes Mark Wood.
The 22-year-old forward completed a whirlwind week as he looked on from the sidelines on Saturday as Luton won 1-0 at struggling Stockport County.
Former Maidenhead United striker Wall had only been to ‘tour’ round Kenilworth Road on Thursday before signing on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move.
He’d only just been named Blue Square Bet South player of the month after bagging five goals in February and said: “I wanted to help Maidenhead as much as I could while I was there.”
Wall had netted 13 times for the mid-table side this term, but new boss John Still revealed he felt it was too soon to plunge Wall straight into the squad at Edgeley Park.
Wall admitted he was disappointed to miss out at the weekend, but Still hinted at Monday’s press conference that he could be involved in tonight’s game at lowly Boro.
The new boy said: “I was a bit disappointed not to be involved but I think anybody would be. It was good to get a look at the squad and the way John Still wants to be playing. I would like to be involved as soon as possible.”
But he admitted he had been impressed with what he saw, especially from the strikers.
In fact there is plenty of competition up front with the Hatters also boasting the likes of Andre Gray, Stuart Fleetwood, Jon Shaw, Scott Rendell and Dan Walker.
“I’ve only had a chance to look at them on Saturday but it I was impressed with what they do,” said Wall. “They are proven goalscorers at this level.
“The way John put his teams out to pick up the three points we are on the same wavelength.”
And on his own game and his ambitions for the future, he added: “I work as hard as possible every game and do my best for the team. I don’t have a certain way of playing. I would call it as all-round.
“Obviously the aim is to try and make the play-offs and get as high in the league as possible and try and get a few goals and play as much as I can.”
