Football round up

>> Bedford Leisure League

The Electric Six's maintained their perfect record in the Bedford Six-A-side League as they scored a spectacular 10-2 victory against Real Bedford.

Willington Wanderers kept up the pressure at the top as they humbled Wise Guys 7-2.

Their Wives also hit seven past their opponents, with Team Supercool replying with three.

Elsewhere, The Hurricanes battled to maximum points as they edged past the challenge of Alf Ramseys 5-3.

>> Skills coaching is a big success

Over 150 children from Bedfordshire have been given free football skills coaching thanks to an FA Tesco Skills Programme aimed at raising technical standards amongst boys and girls aged 5-11 years old.

The holiday sessions were run at Lealands High School (Luton), Van Dyke Upper School (Leighton Buzzard), Redbourne Upper School (Ampthill) and Sharnbrook Upper School (Sharnbrook) in the first two weeks of the summer holidays.

Tesco, along with the funding and support for the programme, provided free fruit and water from their local stores, and in some cases prizes for the children.

The nationwide programme, co-ordinated by The FA and funded by Tesco and Sport England, has recently reached its target of providing one million children in England with skills coaching by the summer of 2010, a year earlier than planned.

Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA Director of Football Development, said: "The FA Tesco Skills Programme has been a resounding success since its launch in 2007 and has helped us enthuse over a million youngsters, helping them get active, enjoy football and become better players too.

"Tesco's commitment, along with that of Sport England, has enabled us to provide high quality coaching to children who otherwise wouldn't have access to the calibre of Skills Coaches we have up and down the country."
