EAGLES: Bedford Town 0 Stourbridge 1
Bedford missed out on a glorious chance to climb four places in the league on Thursday (March 11), after ten-man Stourbridge produced a sucker punch eight minutes from time to secure the points.
Lee Howarth kept the same starting line-up from the Nuneaton game, with new signing, James Taylor occupying the subs bench.
In a 1st half that was open, chances were few, with Jamie Cole coming close for the home side on two occasions.
First opportunity came when Craig Daniel's run came to an abrupt halt via a tackle, but Cole took up the slack, directing the loose ball goalwards.
Although Lewis Solly was beaten, James Cooper cleared off the line.
The second chance came about in similar circumstances, but this time, Cole attempted a lob that forced Solly to tip over the bar.
The game exploded, two minutes into the 2nd half, when Daniel tussled with Daryl Jones. Both players squared up to each other, with Jones receiving his marching orders for violent conduct.
The home side made use of the 1-man advantage, but the combination of mass defending and the woodwork ensured Stourbridge kept a clean sheet.
Just before the hour, Daniel burst through from the left, beating Solly with his effort, but the foot of the right hand post came to the visitors rescue.
A few minutes later, Cole's corner pinballed its way round the Stourbridge area, with an en-masse defence denying the Bedford forward line. The ball was eventually flicked into the path of Junior McDougald, whose instant shot cannoned off the bar.
As the game progressed, Bedford kept up the attack, and with 15 minutes left, Solly produced a diving save to deny an Ian Draycott header.
A couple of minutes later, brother, Phillip Draycott, had barely been on the pitch 30 seconds before testing Solly from the left hand corner of the area, with the Stourbridge 'keeper palming the ball off for a corner; and when that came over, no Bedford player could get a meaningful touch until Daniel saw his shot saved.
The sucker punch came on 82 minutes when a long clearance found James Cooper, who managed to get the better of Tom Hole before dipping a shot from 20-yards over Mike Armitt.
