EAGLES: Bedford 1 Chesham 2
Bedford are still looking for their first win of the season after losing to Chesham United on Bank Holiday Monday.
With the trio of Michael McKenzie, Craig Daniel and Josh Sozzo still unavailable, Ady Williams made just one change to the side that were beaten two days previous at Swindon, with Graham Clark replacing Jamie Cole in midfield, and was only able to name three players on the subs bench.
The game started at a good pace with Leon Archer testing Ian Brown within the first minute with a low shot after the Chesham striker had stole into the area.
After three minutes, Graham Clark, after riding two tackles snatched his shot, giving Shane Gore an easy save.
Just before the ten minute mark, mass defending from the visitors denied Bedford a chance of a goal when Stuart Wall's header, from a corner, was cleared.
Chesham took the lead on 14 minutes, and it was the first goal that Bedford had conceded this season in open play. Archer's second bite of the cherry when his first cross from the right was blocked by Gavin Hoyte, went too far and was going off, but Gabriel Fanibuyan raced in and steered the ball back into the danger area, where Ricci Crace, on his own on the edge of the goal area directed the ball into the net via his chest.
After near misses for Wall, again, and a Steve Wales shot that was tipped round the post by Brown, Chesham increased their lead from the penalty spot. Wales went on the run down the right with Derwayne Stupple tracking him all the way. As the away midfielder was going for goal, Stupple put a tackle in that looked fair and Wales fell under the challenge, prompting Referee, Mr Artis to point to the spot.
Captain, Danny Talbot stepped up and dispatched the penalty to the top left hand corner of the net, but not before Brown had managed to get a hand to the ball.
The Eagles pull a goal back with five minutes of the half left when Ian Draycott won back a lost ball from Talbot. The Bedford striker fed his brother, Phil, down the left, who in turn squared the ball into the area. Craig Rydeheard helped the ball onto Clark, and his first time shot beat Gore to settle in the left hand side of the net.
Bedford nearly grabbed an equaliser just before half time when Phil Draycott's free kick from the right was met by Ian Draycott at the far post. With a few Chesham players on the goal line, there was confusion as to who had cleared it.
The 2nd half was more staid.
Five minutes in, Eddie Lawley's foray down the left flank took him to the byline before crossing into the area. Although the cross was too high for Ian Draycott, Callum Lewis came in from the right, adjusting his stance before hitting a shot that was blocked by Chris Elsegood.
From then on the Eagles' couldn't manage a clear chance on goal.
Just after the hour, Crace went on a run from just inside the Bedford half, and his momentum meant that any tackle would give a foul away.
The Chesham striker tried his luck from just outside the Bedford area, only for Brown to palm the ball round the right hand post.
Much of the game after this was confined to midfield, and the longer the game dragged on, frustrations boiled over.
The last action of the game saw Brown save low at his right hand post from a Chris Bangura effort.
