Dees demolished by in-form Old Northamptonians

Warren try is scant consolation for Dunstablians

Old Northamptonians 66 Dunstablians 10

On the back of two impressive wins Dunstablians were thrashed 66-10 at Old Northamptonians on Saturday.

The ONs are the form team in Midlands One East, having scored 90 unanswered points against Wellingborough last week, and it showed at the weekend as they ran in nine tries at Billing Road.

It was sweet revenge for the ONs who had lost the reverse fixture 10-9 earlier in the season at Dunstable.

There were noticeable absentees in the Dees line up and during a fast and furious opening, Dunstablians were soon pinned in their own half, conceding an early unconverted try off the back of a well-worked rolling maul.

A back injury forced flanker Ashley Stackhouse off after just 10 minutes and he was replaced by Reece Bowles.

The remainder of the half continued in much the same vein as ONs exploited Dees' weaknesses around the ruck as they ran in some impressive tries.

The only bright spot for Dees came when, after a good spell of possession rugby, skipper Joe Murphy slotted over a penalty to make it 37-3 at the break.

A serious talking to from coach Mark Jabri at the break seemed to give Dees some steel, and they worked hard to address the defensive frailties that cost them dear in the first half.

But just as it seemed that the Dunstablians were going to get a foothold in the game, the Northampton outfit found an extra gear as they outclassed their opponents.

And things went from bad to worse for the Dees as a double injury blow struck brothers Joe and Ben Murphy.

Both were forced from the field and were replaced by Paul Trew and Campbell Haig.

And Dees were rewarded for their second half endeavour with a try from Scott Warren.

Winger Kevin Boland launched a wonderful crossfield kick that picked out Warren in acres of space and he took full advantage to touch down, with Gerhard Swart adding the extras.

This weekend Dunstablians host Paviors.
