Patterson brace sees off Blunham
Meltis Corinthians triumphed in the Britannia Cup final with a 2-1 defeat of Blunham.
At Biggleswade United's Second Meadow ground, Meltis gained revenge for a pair of league defeats, Justin Patterson's brace enough to capture the spoils.
The Sweetboys dominated the opening exchanges and after spurning two good early opportunities, took the lead midway through the half when Patterson latched on to a pass from Carlton Dickson and fired home.
Blunham fought back and drew level on the stroke of half time when Mark Davidson finished off a Lee Marshall cross.
Patterson's second 10 minutes from time put Meltis back in front and, despite chances at both ends, Matt Hullett missing an opportunity to take the clash into extra-time, Meltis hung on for the victory.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Renhold United host Wootton Blue Cross for The Alf Duncombe and Phil Burraway Memorial Cup, being staged for the first time.
Duncombe had an association with both clubs spanning over 50 years, while Burraway still holds the record for being Wootton's longest serving captain.
The game at Renhold United Playing Fields kicks off at 12 noon and, although entry is free, a matchday programme is available for a donation.
