Cup competition steals the limelight in the Luton Dunstable & District League

Netball round-up

Teams from throughout the Luton Dunstable & District Netball League competed in the Divisional Cup this weekend.

Premier teams Dodgers and Leighton Buzzard Jets had a tightly contested match which could have gone either way.

Jets' shooters were slightly more in form though as they edged to victory in each quarter.

First division White Tornadoes played out a draw with Shefford, each winning two quarters and sharing the points.

Division Two Yellow Tornadoes took all eights points from their clash with Leighton Buzzard Jaguars.

Yellows started strongly dominating the circle at both ends.

Winning regular turnovers, the Yellows moved the ball fluently through mid-court to win the first quarter 13-2.

Yellows continued their impressive form in the second period, with Sophie Edwards and Fiona McLaughlin scoring freely as they won the period 18-2.

Jaguars, although trying valiantly, could not break through the strong defence of Megan Bailey, Bhavika Mistry and Yellows captain Lucy Russell.

Centre Louise Powell and wing attack Ceile D'Emanuelle caused all sorts of problems for Jaguars and their accurate feeds into the circle enabled them to win the third quarter 15-2.

A feisty encounter saw Division Three Pink Tornadoes just lose out to Colts.

After the first quarter had ended in a draw, Colts stepped up their game to win the next two periods.

Pinks easily won the final quarter, but Colts had already done enough for victory.

Fellow Division Three outfit, Lilacs Tornadoes, lost the first three quarters against Halcyon Harriers, but won the last period 7-5.

Meanwhile, Division Four Eclipse easily saw off Vixens.

Eclipse won all four quarters, with Vixens only managing to score a total of nine goals throughout the match.
