Central Beds thrash City

College complete double over rivals

Central Bedfordshire College romped to a 5-1 win against former Leicester City star Matt Elliott's Leicester squad.

Having won their first encounter 3-1, the Dunstable establishment completed the double over their Midlands rivals with a fine home win.

Football development manager Colin Sharpe said: "It is great to get another win against such good opposition.

"What was even more pleasing was the fact that we limited them to only one shot on goal in the whole game.

"I put this down to the way that the whole team defended and kept their shape out of possession, in particular centre-half, George Higley – pictured – who had the his best game of the season by far."

The hosts started the game brightly, despite having not played for a couple of weeks because of the bad weather.

Central Beds dominated the first 20 minutes but were unable to create a clear goalscoring opportunity until skipper Lewis Osborne turned three Leicester players inside out and calmly curled the ball into the top corner of the goal from 20 yards.

A fantastically-timed run allowed Ryan Ellingham to race on to Aaron Morgan's through ball shortly after, and the league's top scorer didn't disappoint as he doubled Dunstable's lead.

Leicester's direct game, though, paid dividends when they failed to clear a corner and a Leicester player was left with a simple tap in to make it 2-1 at the break.

A change in formation at the interval helped Central Beds to restore their two-goal cushion five minutes into the second half when Ellingham rounded the keeper and finished well.

Aidan Murray followed this with a goal directly from a corner, before Osborne once again was at the heart of things as he slotted a lovely ball through for Morgan to elegantly lob the ball over the keeper from

30 yards.

Next up for Central Beds is a home game against Oxford United.
