CC Luton's Moye celebrates a fantastic treble victory
Cycling round-up
A hat-trick of wins in the Welwyn Track League for CC Luton's Anthony Moye was topped off with a first road race win last Sunday.
Moye triumphed in 2.11hrs at the Ginger Smallwood Road Race held over a distance of 54 miles on a course at Mentmore in Buckinghamshire.
An early breakaway group of four riders never gained more than a minute's gap over the following bunch and, coming into the last of five laps, Moye managed to link up with the leaders with two other riders.
The leading group was then whittled down to six when one of the early leaders was dropped, and Moye showed plenty of power to win the sprint finish, crossing the line a bike-length ahead of Paul Verlander (MI Racing]. The remaining bunch of riders finished some 30 seconds later.
Moye was presented with his prize money by former 1970s British professional rider Brian Tadman.
The latest Tuesday Evening League meeting doubled as Icknield Road Club's 10-mile Handicap Cup and Stephen Parsons took the honours with a time of 20.11mins.
Quickest on the night was Tim Davies in 22.37mins, but the handicapping system meant his ride could only secure him fifth place.
Samuel Gilzean finished in the runners-up spot in 22.04mins, while Rob Blackmore was third in 22.11mins.
The top three were followed by Mark Sibley, 22.18mins, Davies, 22.37mins, Richard Noon, 22.43mins, Clive Corns, 22.44mins, Paul Abraham, 22.57mins, Phil O'Leary, 23.03mins, Tony Baines, 23.06mins, Imre Bartal, 23.13mins, Andy Parrish, 23.20mins, Neil Allonby, 23.55mins, Tim Kirk, 24.05mins, John Pfeifer, 24.23mins, Will Randell, 28.05mins, and Dave Ford, 29.26mins.
Meanwhile, in the Welwyn Track League, Gilzean achieved top three placings in the four U16 events, coming second in the five-lap scratch event and 500m handicap sprint.
Keeping Gilzean on his toes is Achlan Howes who, in his first track season, came fourth, third, fourth and fifth in the respective races.
Four Team Sanjan Design riders competed in the Hitchin Nomads CC 10-mile time-trial near Tempsford on Thursday.
The fastest of the quartet was Stuart Tarry who recorded the second quickest time of the evening with 21.35mins.
Nick Pitt was not far behind in 22.03mins, followed by Andy Bright, 23.17mins, and Alan Crane, 24.20mins.
Three days later the same quartet rode in the Northants & District 22.6-mile time-trial at Cardington, a race that included the 10 per cent ascent of Hammer Hill.
Tarry came third with a time of 52.14mins and Pitt seventh in 54.29mins.
With Crane covering the course in 58.26mins, the trio took the team prize on the day.
Bright was also in action, finishing in a decent time of 1.00.46hrs.
