CC Luton riders are more than tough enough

There was a double mountain bike win for CC Luton at the Army CU's 'Are you tough enough event' last weekend.

The four hour endurance event was held at Porridge Pot Hill, near Deepcut in Surrey, and the dry course was largely single track with some testing technical climbs.

Gavin Rumbles completed seven laps of the technical eight-mile course in 4.35hrs to win the veterans solo mens' category.

Theresa Jackson rode consistently, getting faster each lap to win the solo womens' category with five laps in 4.14hrs. The other CC Luton participant, Mike Jackson, took fourth spot in the solo mens' category, having lost five minutes due to a puncture.

Icknield Road Club's Paul Abraham's name will be engraved on the 10-mile Handicap Trophy after victory at the Tuesday evening event between Clophill and Flitwick.

Abraham's time of 23.34mins was 10 seconds better than the pair of Richard Noon and Richard Gray, who both notched 23.44mins.

Colin Holmes finished fourth with a time against handicap of 23.47mins.

Team Sanjan Design ended their week on a high by claiming their second team prize in three weeks at the Northants & District CA 22.6-mile time-trial on Sunday.

Stuart Tarry was second overall in 52.08mins, while Ian Markham and Alan Crane made up the threesome, clocking 56.07mins and 58.13mins respectively. Andy Bright also rode, recording 1.01.12hrs.

Last Saturday, Tarry was third at the Sherwood CC 25-mile time-trial in 54.22mins, Nick Pitt came home in 57.33mins, Ian Markham, 58.34mins, and Crane 1.02.31hrs.

Bright had his usual engagement at the St Ives CC 10-mile time-trial on Wednesday, clocking 25.14mins, and he was in action again the following night at the St Neots CC 11.2-mile hilly ti
