Bumper entry for Bedford Head of the River

Bedford Rowing Club's annual Fours & Eights Head of the River Race which takes place on Sunday has attracted 220 entries.

The event is run as a time trial over a 2,000m downstream stretch of the River Great Ouse from Queens Park to Newnham.

More than 25 clubs, schools and colleges are sending around 120 eights and 100 fours, and the host club is fielding crews from all its squads.

All the Harpur Trust schools' boat clubs have submitted large entries, as well as Star Club and Milton Keynes RC.

Others attending include Hampton School, Emmanuel School and Sir William Borlase Schools.

From further afield Wallingford and Kingston rowing clubs have entered large squads, and the Oxford and Cambridge college boat clubs are out in force, joined by the Cambridge University lightweights rowing as Granta Boat Club.

The action is due to start at 9.15am with boats going off until 4.30pm.
