Blues batter Leverstock Green at Pancake Lane, while Rovers go down at Marlow

Midweek football extra

A flipping marvellous result for Dunstable Town saw them claim a 1-0 win against Leverstock Green at Pancake Lane on Tuesday night.

Dan O'Connor's 77th-minute volley proved to be decisive as the Blues followed up Saturday's 3-1 win at Colney Heath with their first double of the season.

And, if they can continue this consistency, they could still yet claim promotion from the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division.

It was a close encounter against Green who were sat above Dunstable in the league. Both sides had their fair portion of goalmouth action and, but for some waywardness and the woodwork, there would have been more than just a solitary goal in the game.

On Saturday the Blues entertain Tring Athletic, who scored six against woeful Welwyn Garden City, and on Tuesday Brimsdown Rovers visit Creasey Park.

A goal on the hour from Aaron Couch condemned 10-man Barton Rovers to a 1-0 defeat at Marlow in Division One Midlands of the Zamaretto Southern League on Tuesday night, after they had lost 2-0 at Bedworth United on Saturday.

The ball spent a lot of time in the air in the first half, with on-loan Luton keeper Aaron Fletcher making a number of good saves, including several one-on-ones.

The vastly experienced Sammy Winston made his Rovers debut up front but he was clearly not match fit.

Marlow were transformed after the break and their positivity was rewarded when Couch forced the ball home in a goalmouth melee.

Daniel Stone went close again for the hosts as Barton lost all shape.

Alex O'Brien then received his marching orders when he was shown a second yellow card for throwing up an arm after a tussle. On Saturday, Barton host Woodford United and on Tuesday entertain Burnham.

In Reserve Division One, Holmer Green beat AFC Dunstable 1-0 and Crawley Green triumphed 4-3 at Kings Langley, while in Reserve Division Two Kent Athletic went down 4-1 at Berkhamsted and The 61 FC (Luton) won 3-1 at Buckingham Athletic.
