BLUES: Davies departs as friendlies finalised

Latest news from Goldington Road

Brad Davies has left the Bedford Blues to sign for fellow Championship club Moseley.

The former England U21, Barbarians and Gloucester fly-half leaves after just one season at Goldington Road, where he struggled to hold down a regular starting spot – with Blues mostly opting for Myles Dorrian at No 10.

And Bedford director of rugby Mike Rayer reckons the move is in the best interests of all parties.

He said: "Brad did a really good job for us, but perhaps didn't really hit the heights in terms of performance level last year that we or himself would have hoped for.

"But I'm sure this will be a good move for him, as it will mean he'll be closer to his family and he goes with our best wishes."

Meanwhile, Rayer revealed he is currently in negotiations with a loosehead prop and hopes to have some positive news shortly.

Details of the Blues' first two pre-season friendlies have also been revealed.

Guinness Premiership Northampton Saints will visit Goldington Road on Friday, August 13, before Bedford entertain another top flight outfit, Saracens, on Tuesday, August 17.

Blues have developed strong links with both clubs in recent seasons and the games will see familiar faces like Soane Tonga'uiha and Mouritz Botha returning to their old stomping ground.

And Rayer reckons the games will provide the Blues with some excellent preparation ahead of their 2010-11 Championship campaign.

He said: "We're looking forward to what will be two incredibly tough fixtures, and always are against teams like that.

"And it will certainly give us a good barometer as to where we are with our preparation at that point in time, as we get ready for the challenges we'll face next season."
