Bedford derby sees A team beat B side

editorial image

Bedford A began their defence of the Bedfordshire League title with a surprisingly difficult 3-2 victory over Bedford B, who were heavily outgraded on all five boards.

Horatiu Pirau and Ravi Arulnandhy proved too strong for Joe Valerio and Chris Hill, but Steve Pike held Steve Ledger to a draw and Nick Collacott did likewise against Paul Habershon.

Neil Hickman spent over two hours patiently nursing a positional advantage against Alex Taylor, forcing his opponent to resign about four minutes from the end of the scheduled session.
