Barnes-Homer absent on compassionate leave

Brave striker given time off to mourn the passing of his father

Anguished Hatter striker Matthew Barnes-Homer was missing from Luton Town's squad on Saturday due to the death of his father.

The 24-year-old striker, signed from Kidderminster Harriers for around 75,000 in the January transfer window, was given compassionate leave to miss Saturday's 1-0 defeat of Wrexham after his father passed away the night before.

Manager Richard Money broke the sad news, saying: "Matthew Barnes-Homer's father lost a battle against a serious illness last night.

"It's something Matthew himself has been battling with for a number of weeks.

"He has gone back on compassionate leave and hopefully he will be back with us soon.

"Matthew has kept his counsel and wanted to keep playing, which is full credit to him, but now we need to give him the full support he needs and we will do that."
