Bakare is Luton AC's golden girl
Athletics round-up
Talented young sprinter Sabrina Bakare competed at the Aviva English Athletics Indoor Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham and triumphed.
The Luton AC athlete came away with gold with a resounding victory in the U15 200m as she clocked a time of 25.18 secs.
Active Luton Sports Development Team has helped to hone the Barnfield West Academy Year 9 student's abilities.
Coach Catrina Lewis tutored a group of Year 7 students from the school three years ago and took many of them, including Bakare, to the Regional Athletics Sportshall competition as part of the Bedfordshire team.
Bakare showed her talent by medalling at the event and Lewis eventually managed to convince her to attend Luton AC where she started high jump sessions with Fred Wooding and sprint training with Jane Dixon and from there she has excelled.
Sophie Billington, in her first indoor championship, placed an excellent third in the 800m in 2.17.8mins and John McDonnell also finished third in the 1,500m, behind an Irish duo, in 3.53mins.
