Amps penalty opens up title race

Luton handed a glimmer of hope

The race for the National Three Midlands title has been thrown wide open after leaders Ampthill were deducted 10 points for a breach of regulations when they postponed their home league game against Kettering on February 6.

Amps admitted that they failed to follow the correct procedure when they postponed the match and the Midlands Leagues Organising Committee decided that the Mid Beds side had failed to consult with either Kettering or the league secretary before they took the decision to postpone the match on the morning of the game.

In imposing the 10-point penalty the Midlands Leagues Organising Committee ruled that the decision to postpone was "premeditated and therefore calculated to gain advantage from the postponement."
