Walker ton sinks Leighton Buzzard

Ampthill opened their Bedfordshire County League Premier Division campaign with a 30-run defeat of Leighton Buzzard.

Alex Walker, with 108, and Ajaz Hussain, 5-43, were the stars for Ampthill who made 237-9 before dismissing the hosts for 207.

Flitwick claimed their second successive victory with a three-wicket win against Biggleswade.

Jimmy Hart's 66 was the mainstay of the visitors' 226-8 but Carl Ferguson, with 95, enabled the home side to reach their victory target in the 46th over.

Kempston Hammers II got the better of their Luton Town & Indians counterparts in Division Two.

Batting first, Luton reached 170-5 from 46 overs before Kempston reached their target for the loss of six wickets, M Russell leading the way with 72.

Paul Litchfield and Josh Macmillan shared a sixth wicket stand of 77 as Eversholt beat Hemel Hempstead II by three wickets in Herts League Division Three.

S Avis' 5-79 helped Eversholt restrict Hemel to 163-8 and although D Mudd took 6-41, Eversholt reached their target in the 47th over.

Thurleigh recorded a comprehensive 10-wicket defeat of St Neots in their Bedford & District League Premier Division match at St Neots.

Battling first the hosts were dismissed for just 112 runs, R Stean leading the way with 4-26, while O Jordan and N Knowles both picked up two wickets apiece.

J Arch and A Bailey led the visitors home with undefeated knocks of 66 and 39, respectively.

Wilden, meanwhile, held their nerve to record a two-wicket victory at Queens Park.

Queens Park were skittled out for 165, despite the best efforts of S Hussain who made 80 before being dismissed by S Elphick.

Elphick was the pick of Wilden's bowlers with 4-29 off his 10 overs, while there were two wickets apiece for S Bambury, D Fann and M Warman.

In reply Wilden sneaked to victory making 166 for the loss of eight wickets. A Teacher was Wilden's top scorer before he was run out for 51, while J Prigmore made 29 at the top of the order.

In Division One, Pilgrims Oakley II enjoyed an emphatic 87-run victory against Brickhill.

R Brand top scored with 43 as Oakley totalled 167-9 from their 40 overs and this proved to be too many for Brickhill who folded to 80 all out.

Tosmasud was the pick of the Oakley attack with 4-15 from 10 economical overs.

Riseley Sports had no answer to Mowsbury Park's colossal first innings total of 316-6 in Division Two as they lost by 234 runs.

S Alie top scored for Park with 107, before he was run out, while R Bowyer made 50 and M Davis 44 not out.

Only M Jenness made any sort of innings in reply as he made 28, while P Hale and M Davis were the pick of Park's bowlers, both taking three wicket.

In Division Three, Thurleigh II secured an 87-run victory over Bedford II. Thurleigh made 151 all out, J Mudge leading the way with his knock of 37.

In reply the visitors were skittled out for a miserly 64, P Jelly taking 4-10, while N Parekh and B Robbins both snared braces.

Meanwhile, in ladies cricket, Kempston recorded a 70-run victory over Tring at Cutler Hammer on Sunday.

Kempston batted first and made 145-2. Karen Bowyer scored 50 runs from 51 balls and she was supported by Cheryl Eaton (26), Clare Payne (19) and Sarah Hogg (14). Tring replied, but could only make 75, with Anna Monk taking 2-21 from her five overs and Cheryl Eaton 2-18 from three overs.
