Abbey bags a double as Blues win at Atherstone

... but there's no joy for Biggleswade United

In front of 231 spectators, Arlesey Town put their run of recent Southern League defeats behind them as they triumphed 4-2 at Atherstone on an afternoon when then weather claimed so many games.

The Blues went behind on 16 minutes when Smith scored for the hosts but Zema Abbey levelled three minutes later before Marc Leach put them from the penalty spot after 35.

Nathan Frater then made it 3-1 just before the interval while Abbey made the points safe a minute into the second half before Atherstone pulled it back to 4-2 17 minutes from time.

Elsewhere in Division One Midlands, leaders Hitchin Town beat Woodford 3-0 with goals from Lee (two) and Arlick while the games between Biggleswade Town and Stourport Swifts and that between Barton Rovers and Slough were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

With other games involving our local sides Stotfold, Langford and Potton United also called off, Biggleswade United travelled to play Kingsbury London Tigers where their recent run of two consecutive league wins ended in a 3-1 defeat.

Just four SSML Premier Division games survived while at Dunstable's Greasey Park the action with Broxbourne Borough was abandoned at half time with the score at 1-1.
