Yarl's Wood disturbance contained say police.

Police still on standby outside compound

Police were called to a disturbance at Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre today (February 8) involving a number of detainees.

Police officers, including dog units, are on stand-by outside the perimeter fence of the compound but will not be involved unless requested.

A police helicopter was also used to assess the situation, but is no longer at the scene.

A spokesman for Beds Police said: "As of 2pm today all detainees were described as calm and talking with Yarl's Wood staff to address their concerns.

"The incident is completely contained within the compound.

Local residents' representatives will be kept in informed by safer neighbourhood team officers."
