A woman who repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend after chasing him through the streets , has been jailed.
Charlene Brown stabbed her boyfriend 16 times – puncturing one of his lungs.
Neighbours reported seeing Brown chasing the man along Needwood Road, Bedford, shortly after 1pm on May 25.stabbing him in the back.
She was eventually stopped by members of the public who managed to corner her in a garden. Paramedics were flagged down and treated the victim for his injuries.
Brown, 33, of St Augustine’s Road, Bedford, was initially charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
She was jailed for six years and eight months at Luton Crown Court today (Friday). The judge also ruled she must convince a parole board of her suitability for release when she becomes eligible.
Detective Sergeant Mark Stewart, one of the first officers on the scene, said: “This was a very nasty attack which could easily have resulted in the death of the victim.
“I’d like to thank neighbours who came to his aid and the actions of the paramedics who were able to quickly treat his injuries.
“We will not tolerate violence of any kind, especially domestic abuse and will work hard to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
“This case should send a clear message that anyone who thinks they can use such violence against their loved ones faces a lengthy spell behind bars.”
