Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a spate of drive-by shootings in Kempston and Elstow on Sunday, August 10.
Detectives are investigating two incidents where an air rifle has been used to fire pellets at members of the public but it is believed that more offences may have taken place which have not yet been reported.
On Sunday afternoon at 3.20pm a woman was walking along Bedford Road, Kempston, near to Sainsbury’s supermarket, when a family saloon slowed down nearby and an occupant of the car fired a pellet at her which lodged in her shoulder. The vehicle then drove off towards Bedford and the victim was taken to Bedford Hospital for treatment.
Around 25 minutes later, officers were called to an incident in Hillsden Avenue, Elstow, where a youth fired an air rifle at a member of the public who was walking along an alleyway, before running away.
Officers quickly attended the scene and arrested five individuals who were taken into custody for questioning before being released on police bail.
Detective Constable Amanda Durrant, who is investigating both incidents, said: “These were two very serious incidents which involved a weapon being discharged and members of the public fearing for their lives. I believe that other offences may have taken place on the same day and would urge anyone who has any information to come forward and speak with me.”
