Max Burt meets Mayor Dave Hodgson

Wheelchair-bound Max Burt was left severely disabled after a freak collision with an out-of-control fire engine ten years ago.

But far from giving up after being confined to a wheelchair with head injuries, deafness and paralysis down his left side, Max decided to plan an epic cycle-ride from Aberdeen to London.

And while stopping off on his 714-mile-long trip for a short stay at The Embankment Hotel this week, Max had a meeting with Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson in which the pair discussed the cycle adventure as well as people's attitudes to disabilities.

Max said: "The route I chose for this leg is from Cambridge to Bedford which is 33 miles.

"It's only a tiny fraction of the journey I have undertaken, but it's really gruelling for someone in my situation.

"I hope the people of Bedfordshire will come and cheer me on.

"My journey, as well as highlighting the positive common experience that disabled people share in overcoming obstacles, which also celebrate the ingenious abilities that disabled people have, and demonstrate that everything is possible."

Max first got the idea for the cycle ride after starting to train on a recline exercise cycle.

Since his accident he has become involved with man disability related organisations in an attempt to overcome real obstacles and prejudices.
