Two weekend road closures are planned as the Western Bypass continues to take shape.
The first roundabout, which is near its completion, is being resurfaced and will form a major part of the new arterial route.
A key element in the construction of the new roundabouts was the completion of a pedestrian underpass at Deep Spinney. This provides access across the major route for pedestrians and cyclists and has now been completed.
A spokesperson for Bedford Borough Council said: “We are delighted that careful preliminary planning of the contract has paid off and the bypass is currently being delivered by our contractors ahead of target.
“However, we understand that upcoming road closures to resurface the roundabout will cause some disruption to journeys and do apologise for this. “We ask residents and motorists to please bear with us while the final stages of the works along this section of the bypass are completed as quickly as possible, taking note of the diversion signs and information available on our website.”
Closures will be in place at the Deep Spinney/Bromham Road area this weekend from 8pm on Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3 at 8pm and form 8pm on Friday, May 8 to 8pm on Sunday, May 10.
