Waterway descendents wanted

Was one of your ancestors a Bedford-MK waterlink pioneer?

Descendents of the eight pioneers who first called for a water link between Bedford and Milton Keynes are needed for a 200th anniversary celebration.

The Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Link (B & MK) wants to find people who are related to those who signed a petition calling for a water route on November 11, 1811 at Shire Hall in Bedford.

The signatories were landowner John Foster who owned Brickhill House, wine merchant John Rawlins, corn merchant William White, RW Robinson, John Emery, Samuel Gifford, Charles Bailey and Richard Leach.

B & MK chairman Jane Wolfson said: "The Trust is planning a celebration to mark this anniversary, and show how much progress has been made.

"It has been agreed that we should trace as many of these descendents as possible to join our celebrations."
