What is better than watching the match with a beer in hand? Watching it in Bedford’s new outdoor bar - and enjoying the sun at the same time.
The Bedford Swan Hotel officially launched its expanded riverside terrace, in time for the kick-off of the World Cup, with the option of watching the river for those who are not interested in football.
General manager Dominic Mills and team threw a barbecue party while screening the first game on a giant TV, and invited guests back on Saturday to watch the late-night England V Italy game.
He said: “The river is our greatest asset in Bedford and we decided to make more of our ‘terrace with a view ‘ and invite people to eat and drink with us, whatever the weather, under our giant canopies.
“There is also an easy entrance to the River Room restaurant for those who want to eat indoors.”
He added: “We are looking forward to the rest of the football season and to a long, hot summer of people making the most of Bedford’s river.”
Bedford Swan Hotel offers popular afternoon teas and its Lotas Spa beauty facility, including a Roman bath style pool, is open to non-residents all year round.
Dominic added: “We want local people to know they are welcome to enjoy our facilities in this historic hotel - we are not just here for tourists from farther afield in the UK and overseas.”
