The elderly victim of a distraction burglary in Turvey has died days after crooks targeted her home.

At around 9.20pm last Thursday (April 30), a man knocked on the door of a house in The Pyghtle and told the 96 year old woman that he had damaged her fence.

While she went outside to speak to him, a second man entered the home and when the victim went back inside the crook locked her inside as he left.

Det Insp Dani Fitzharris: “Tragically the victim of this cruel crime passed away on Sunday (May 3).

“We are working hard to identify the two men responsible for this crime and I’m once again urgently appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who has information, to contact us immediately.

“We will be carrying out a number of patrols in the area to provide reassurance to residents and deter others from carrying out similar offences.”

The victim, who police are not naming, was admitted to hospital on the day of her death.

Both men are described as white and aged around 16. One is described as thin and wearing a blue linen style hat and a navy T-shirt. The second is described as wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball cap.

Anyone with information should contact Det Insp Fitzharris on 101 or text 07786 200 011, alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
