Schoolchildren were part of a tree planting ceremony to commemorate the start of World War One.

The service, led by Father Macdonald on Friday, saw a beech tree provided by Bedford Mayor Dave Hodgson planted at Grange Gardens in Sharnbrook.

The event had been arranged by Sharnbrook Parish Council and also involved Royal British Legion members from Sharnbrook, Clapham and Rushden, along with children from Sharnbrook John Gibbard Lower School.

As part of the ceremony pupils read out names of the fallen and a short history of each person.
