Trains heading north from Bedford are being severely delayed as emergency services attend a person on the track.

The incident, in which a person is believed to have died after being struck by a train, is near Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

East Midlands Trains has said while the line has reopened delays of up to 30 minutes between Bedford and Leicester/Corby are expected while services return to normal. This is expected to continue until 13:00.

They added: “Alternative travel options: Passengers may use Virgin Trains East Coast between London Kings Cross and Doncaster.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to Market Harborough station at 8.52am on Tuesday, 17 November to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Leicestershire Police, and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
