Village hall gets a lick of paint

Staff from Barratt Homes have rallied together to make some much needed improvements to a community hall.

The developer has been working with Marston Moretaine Parish Council for a number of years as part of its commitment to support and engage with local communities and was keen to get involved with this latest project to help revitalize the village hall.

Barratt Northampton graduates, Christina Wilson and Rebecca Smith organised the project as part of their training programme, which encourages them to lead project assignments and support local communities through voluntary work.

18 Barratt employees worked together over five days to add a fresh layer of paint to the main hall, kitchen and bathroom areas and the meeting rooms.

Sub-contractors H.S Hurst also helped out to paint the areas of the hall which were more difficult to reach.

Council clerk Hazel Trustam said, “The village hall is at the heart of the community and is run by a group of volunteers with limited access to resources and funding, so Barratt’s contribution and handiwork is greatly appreciated.”

The team’s hard work and dedication has resulted in the hall being completely restored so that it is a functional area for visitors and members to use for a range of activities including indoor exercise classes, sports training, mother and toddler groups and for functions including weddings and birthdays.

Sue McGregor, acting chairman of the hall’s management committee said: “The hall has been in need of refurbishment for a long time

so we were thrilled when we found out that Barratt were interested in becoming involved.

“We were even more delighted when they informed us that they would not only supply the paint but would also help us by coming down to the hall to help out with the painting.

“The improvements have made a dramatic difference and visitors have already noted how impressed they are with the hall’s new attractive and welcoming appearance.”

Barratt Homes is currently working on the Marston Park development that, when completed, will provide nearly 500 exra homes in the village.
