VIDEO: Chef takes part in live cook-off
A DINNERLADY wowed judges with her Thai fish cakes at the regional finals of a national cooking competition.
Tanya Watkin, who works as a mobile dinnerlady for Eden Foodservice based at Woodlands Academy in Flitwick, was awarded a highly commended accolade for her main course in the finals of the East of England School Chef of the year competition, which was held at Bedford College on Thursday.
Tanya, 38, cooked up a dish of Thai fish cakes served with a warm salad, lemon and coriander rice and cucumber chilli jam and a dessert of blueberry and lime muffin.
The Times & Citizen went down on the day to see how Tanya got on.
As she was preparing the finishing touches to her dish she told us: “It hasn’t gone too bad today, there isn’t long to go now so I’m feeling the pressure a bit. I was running a bit behind before but I have managed to catch up now, which is good.
“All the food I’ve chose is brain food. All the ingredients is healthy for the children and their brains.”
Tanya, who came second nationally in the competition several years ago, was competing against Doreen Peacock and Wendy Peacock.
Wendy was crowned the overall winner and she will now go forward to the national finals.
