Video: El Salvadoran football coaches at Bedford middle school
Young footballers from Bedford were given a Latino low-down last week after being visited by a soccer coach from Central America.
Atilio Rodriguez was in England as part of a trip paid for by supporters of Avoca. This family-run charity works with communities and children in Central America, including work fotball coaching and training local coaches.
St Gregory’s Middle School in Biddenham has supported the charity for several years, with students raising funds and lessons about El Salvador being built into the curriculum.
And Atilio, who is a semi-professional footballer in his home country, gave them a taste of his own soccer know-how with the help of countryman Fredy Mozo.
Teacher Graham Millie said: “The students all really enjoyed the day, and it was great for them to meet two of the people who have been helped by the charity and by the money they have raised.

“Atilio plays for Brasilia Suchitoto, and I know the footballers all enjoyed learning different techniques and getting a different coaching style.
“And hearing about what life is like in El Salvador was a real eye-opener, even for pupils who have been learning about Avoca for the last four years.”
As well as coaching youngsters, Fredy and Atilio also spoke in the school assembly about the difference that Avoca’s work has made to their communities.
And the duo also visited classrooms to answer students’ questions about life in El Salvador.
