In our second instalment of Bytesize Borough deputy mayor Charles Royden tell us why his favourite place in Bedford is the Embankment.

Mr Royden is a well-known face in Bedford, as he is the deputy mayor of Bedford Borough Council and is the Reverend of St Mark’s Church in Brickhill.

And he told us that The Embankment is his favourite place in the town as it holds significant romantic memories for him, as he proposed to his wife on the bridge in 1986.

This year the couple will be celebrating 25 years of happy married life.

Mr Royden described The Embankment as “part of the jewel of the crown” of Bedford. And it is a fantastic setting for the popular River Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors.

He said: “If I had to choose any town to live in then it would definitely be Bedford. Bedford got so much going for it. It’s about time we started singing the praises of Bedford and celebrating what a wonderful place it is to live, work and visit.”
