SLIDESHOW: Here we come a-wassailing

Bromham Mill hosts pagan ceremony to ensure bumper harvest of apples

A traditional blessing of the trees and bees, to ensure a healthy crop for the coming year, took place in Bromham last weekend.

Wassailing The Apple Tree And Spring is an ancient pagan ceremony which took place at the Mill for the third successive year last Saturday.

The ritual involves pouring cider around an apple tree and hanging toast on its branches to ensure a prosperous harvest.

A number of traditional wassailing songs were then sung 'to the tree' and Morris dancers provided further

entertainment.
