SLIDESHOW: Launch of skateboarding group
Bedford Skating School Club set up by committee of young people for young people
A wheel good time was enjoyed by youngsters at Bedford's Jubilee Park on Saturday (January 17) at the launch of a new skateboarding group.
The Bedford Skating School Club has been set up by a committee of young people, helped by parent Maggie Whitely.
More than 150 youngsters turned out for the launch, along with Councillor Anita Gerrard and Miss Bedfordshire Hayley Sams.
Volunteer Ken Lynch, who also helped to co-ordinate the project, said: "The young people who did this deserve all the applause, they are a credit to themselves. They designed the park, they raised money to build it, and they will get the benefits.
"This is the only free skateboarding school in the country. Young people aged from five to 12 can come and learn for free, and all the instructors are aged between 12 and 18.
"Anyone who wants to get involved and become one of the instructors should contact me on 01767 681739."
