The Easter Eggspress has been recognised as the ‘best community rail event’ of the year.

The ‘eggciting’ annual train that is run by the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership won the award at the Community Rail Awards gala sinner on September 28 at the STEAM Railway Museum in Swindon.

Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership officer Stephen Sleight said “I am surprised and delighted with our success.

“This is a fitting reward for all the hard work by the team of volunteers and London Midland staff, which made the Easter Eggspress happen”.

The Community Rail Awards are arranged by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) to celebrate outstanding achievement in community rail development across England and Wales.

The ‘best community rail’ event category was one of the most keenly contested in the awards with over 20 entries, of which six were shortlisted.

The panel of independent judges from the railway industry felt the Easter Eggspress met the criteria of promoting a positive image for the railway and being accessible to all.

The judges were also impressed with the way the event encouraged passengers to use the Marston Vale Line on an ongoing basis, achieved by the distribution of surveys as part of the event pack.

The Friends of Lidlington Station Jubilee mural was also shortlisted in the ‘community art schemes’ category but was unsuccessful.
